We finished off the month of January with a few more snow themed projects. On Monday the students went out into the hallway with the parent helper and tried to walk like a penguin carrying their own egg! The students chose a balloon, blew it up and waddled down to the end of the hall while trying to keep the balloon securely between their legs. Not as easy as it sounds!

At the second table the students got to play a game called snowman bump. Counting and number recognition, super combination!

A few friends worked on drawing their snowman. Their snowman and their drawings are in the hall in the display case, take a look when you pass by. They worked hard to put in as much detail as they used in the making of their snowman.

Searching for alphabet mittens in our matching alphabet game. On Thursday the letters were on pancakes and fried egg shapes for PJ/pancake day! Even the younger siblings got into the fun!

Matching mittens and using a clothes pin to hang them and of course trying them on! Great fine motor practice at the building table.

On Tuesday the parent volunteer helped the students make a sparkly snowflake using popsicle sticks (that they could color them with markers) low-temp glue guns, glue, gems, sequins and anything else sparkly!

At the second table the students made pom pom poppers. Using a small paper cup with the bottom cut out, a balloon was cut at the top and the opening taped onto the cup and tied at the bottom. The students took their poppers into the hall with the parent and aimed to pop the pom pom into a large bowl or basket. It was a very popular activity!

The students worked on a self portrait to add to their portfolios. Teacher Lisa and I just love these! We get to see their progress from the first self portrait last spring to the one in the fall to this one where they notice more details about themselves and added it to their art.

At the second table the students added a sticker, a snowflake and favorite memory to their memory box. The students love to look through their boxes and journals!

And Thursday was wear your pajamas and bring a stuffy day! The kids measured, mixed, and cooked their pancake. Then ate a pancake or two at the first table. They made a pillow for their stuffy at the second table. The students choose their fabric, stuffed the pillow with some batting then sewed them shut. We have a great group of sewers! During the first story time each student introduced their stuffy to the class.

The light table had 3 trays of salt with gems, some sea creatures and glass ice cubes.

Creations station just keeps going! This week quite a few of the students worked on homes for Mousey Brown (our finger puppet mouse).

Rice with polar bears, penguins, large ice blocks, gems, scoops, tubes and buckets kept some kids very busy at the texture table.

Around the room lots of puzzles, construction, writing, dress-up, just busy playing!

We danced, did a human pattern (ask your student if they remember the pattern and which way they faced), they shared the first letter of their names, and read lots of stories during our rug times.

We love to run and play outside!

Guess what you guys? Teacher Lisa found the missing letter N mitten that we were searching for all week! And the amaryllis plant has 4 beautiful flowers blooming! Here we all are in our PJ’s!

What a fabulous finish to January with this awesome class!

So many great activities and projects coming up with Lunar New Year this week and Valentine’s Day activities the following week! See you on Monday.

Warmly,

Teachers Jelena and Lisa
