Last week’s grocery store morphed into a pizza parlor this week. With the guidance of our parent helper, the students took shifts taking pizza orders, making pizzas, baking pizzas AND serving and delivering the delicious pizzas! We couldn’t eat another bite! But I’m sure we will – the pizza parlor is open all week.

The students worked on decorating a pizza box with the other parent helper at the art table. They needed to write their name and the word pizza on the box and decorate it.

The art table was abuzz of activity with students painting an 8” circle of cardboard (crust) with red sauce (paint) then adding toppings including fresh fragrant spices. Once dried, these went into their pizza boxes from Monday.

At the second table the students got to drive (match) and park their lower case alphabet cars onto the upper case parking spot in a pizza box! A super fun letter recognition activity.

Our other pizza creation at the art table was a vegetable stamped pizza. The students had real veggies they dipped into paint and stamped onto a ‘crust’ and finished with gold glitter as the cheese.

The topper (pun intended) to pizza parlor week was…make your own pizza on a bagel! Pizza sauce, fresh mozzarella cheese and pepperoni, YUM!

In the water tub we had plastic fruits and vegetables in a colander with cutting boards, plastic knives, and scrub brushes for some water tub fun. Later in the week, we switched the water to beads and added bigger pitchers and egg beaters.

At the building table the small hammers, nails, large styrofoam cubes covered in burlap, and some small peg board pieces made for lots of hammering nails in and then removing them!

Blue play dough at the play dough table and glueing, cutting and creating at the creation station.

Not pizza related but fun nonetheless: at the second table the students had a chance to learn how to play checkers with the help of a parent. We brought the checkers out on Thursday as well since there was lots of interest in playing!

Another departure from the pizza parlor was the egg predictions the kids did at the second table. They traced the numbers 1 through 20 then circled the number of chicks they predict will hatch next week.

In the texture table we had a gardening scene that later in the week turned into a farm complete with animals, fences, and tractor trailers!

Around the room we played. There was lots to keep us engaged…

At our rug time we jumped, danced, read stories, acted out Bennies Pennies, clapped out ‘pizza’ to the tune of Bingo, did some pizza patterns, and heard all about Pandas second adventures! We also introduced the molting process in preparation for the caterpillars that are in our room.

Wonderful weather for recesses!

Pizza week was super fun! We are excited for the chicks to hatch and getting to hold them next week! See you on Monday.

Warmly,

Teachers Jelena and Lisa
