We returned from Thanksgiving day off to a whole bunch of new activities and projects to explore and experience! Some of the projects the kids do now will be a couple of days in duration. On Monday the students started one such project, a decorated glass tea light holder. They brushed glue onto a glass jar and then chose and cut cool colored tissue papers to place on the jar and of course finish off with glitter! Everything is better with glitter!

On Tuesday, the students spelled out their names in beaded letters to put onto the handle for their tea light holder. They finished off the handle with beads in clear and solid, light and dark blues and purples. They popped in a battery operated tea light and the first of many beautiful and meaningful projects was ready to go home.

At the second table on Monday, the students made an item that they will use in the Winter Program on Thursday, December 14th: a jingle bell bracelet with red and green ribbons! It was very festive sounding in the classroom!

The art table had a potentially messy project on Tuesday but fortunately it was more fun than a mess! They made fold-over string art in gold, red and green paints. The students dipped a piece of yarn into paint, placed it onto the paper and when all three strings were on, pressed lightly then pulled the string and finished off with…. You guessed it! Glitter 🙂 These unique art pieces are out in the hall on the bulletin board.

On Wednesday at the art table the students made handprint wreaths in green and glued a red bow to finish them off. The parent painted each students hand green, they pressed their hand many times in a circle and made red berries by dipping their finger into red paint. These beautiful holiday masterpieces are on the bulletin board in the classroom and will be the back drop to our holiday presentation stage. (Oh, they were finished off with some glitter!)

Teacher Lisa read a story called I like Myself! By Karen Beaumont. A colorful, fun book about appreciating everything about themselves with lots of rhyming text. At the second table the students told the parent something that they are good at and the parent wrote that down. The students decorated the page which has a picture of them holding the lantern they made the day before. These pages were then placed into their portfolios.

Thursday art and second table are actually gifts the students are making for their families so I can’t divulge too much information here…

The light table was a super fine motor activity. Several plastic, clear ornaments could be stuffed and unstuffed with pom poms, beads, and/or strings.

Searching for bells and other holiday trinkets with a magnetic wand in the texture table turned up lots of great items.

What can be better than pouring warm, colorful, sudsy water at the water table?

The Candy Builders are a great creative building toy! The students made some cool structures. Combined with our building table, which has the pre-drilled holes that the pieces fit into perfectly, this is a fine motor and STEM skill booster for sure.

Creation station and play dough have turned into a super creation station with three low-temp hot glue guns extravaganza! Thanks to those who brought us some great recycling items! And as promised, they are making their way back to your homes! Um…you’re welcome!

Around the room there was a lot of writing, stamping, dress-up, painting, building and so much more!

We celebrated a friends birthday, read lots of books (some more than once), and of course there was music, instruments and movement!

Rain or shine we get outside! We even brought out some bubble wrap to jump on and pop!

We had a super fun week with your sweet kiddos. We look forward to more fun holiday activities next week. See you Monday!

Warmly, Jelena and Lisa
