Our week with the circus theme in the classroom was a roaringly good time! Circus themed activities were on most of the tables and in our projects too. Our water tub didn’t have any water this week, we had cloud dough (flour and baby oil mixture) and sprinkles with spoons, cones and cups for a soothing, scooping adventure! Salt and Straw has nothing on us!
Popcorn, come get your popcorn!
Speaking of popcorn…the students used counting, patterning, and gluing skills to make large paper popcorn buckets complete with popcorn (cotton balls) and LOTS of butter (yellow watercolor)!
What circus would be complete without clowns? The students creatively made silly clown portraits with a black and white copy of their faces! They turned out super cute and are hanging on the hallway bulletin board. Stop by for a chuckle!
The students freed some wild animals from their cages by matching the number of dots on the key to the written number on the lock.
We counted the dots on a dice and matched that to the number of ice cream scoops that we grabbed with tongs for some fine motor practice!
We enjoyed a pattern game called Glee Ring Circus.
When we weren’t linking our clowns with our clown connectors we played a rainbow cup stacking/bowling game!
Bubble painting is created by your student blowing into a straw sitting in cup of colored water with dish soap and making mounds of bubbles. The bubbles were then transferred onto a piece of paper.
We have the students draw several self portraits of themselves throughout the year that we put into their portfolios. They do the same project of using a simple black sharpie on white paper, drawing themselves while looking into a mirror. It’s nice to see their progression at the end of the year!
At the Creation Station/Play Dough table, beaded balloon strings were a big attraction! Red play dough was replaced by a sunny yellow that made delicious cinnamon rolls and pies and so much more!
A story box circus toy was something different to each child that played with the wooden pieces. They each had their own story to tell.
Around the room lots of important work was happening! Big cooperative building projects and all around play.
We celebrated a birthday, read lots of stories, we jumped, walked like bears and moved to music. We did not go outside all week due to the roof construction but we hope to on Monday, they are making great progress.
Next week we look forward to more circus fun but we are adding some tigers and elephants to the mix!
See you under the big top on Monday!
